Graduate Program Spotlight Weeks offers undergraduate and graduate students, as well as working professionals, the opportunity to learn more about the variety of graduate programs offered at the University of Calgary through interactives webinars, campus tours and information sessions. 

Program Spotlight Weeks consists of both virtual and in-person events, allowing future students to interact with faculty, staff and current graduate students.

  1. Webinar: Social Work Grad Cert Information Session

    Join this session to explore innovative Graduate Certificates designed specifically for practicing social workers holding a Bachelor of Social Work degree. Certificates offer specialized education and advanced training in high-demand areas including Advanced Social Work Practice (fully online), Trauma-Informed Clinical Practice (online with Edmonton residencies), Clinical Social Work with Individuals, Families and Groups, and Indigenous Ways of Knowing in Leadership (both online with Calgary residencies).

    In this 60-minute session, participants will meet Anne-Marie McLaughlin, Associate Dean of Graduate Programs in Social Work, along with Faculty of Social Work professors, to discuss program details, admission requirements, application processes, and pathways toward the MSW program.

    This four-course M.Ed. Interdisciplinary option engages K-12 teachers in Indigenous education for teaching and learning. Teachers in K-12 settings have the responsibility to engage in Indigenous education work, but often do not feel confident to do so. This program begins there, offering foundational knowledge and introductory approaches to build educator confidence.

  2. Webinar: Equity and Excellence: Gifted Education in Schools

    This four-course M.Ed. Interdisciplinary option equips K-12 educators with foundational knowledge and practical strategies to identify and support gifted learners. Through experiential learning, participants will develop assessment tools, refine instructional strategies, and explore service models to create inclusive and effective learning environments.

    With a focus on equity, diversity, and accessibility, this program empowers educators to advocate for gifted students, collaborate with families, and implement research-driven approaches to help all learners thrive.

  3. Webinar: Generative AI and Educational Innovation

    This four-course M.Ed. Interdisciplinary option is for educators, instructional designers, and educational technologists who want to explore the different ways in which generative AI can live in various educational contexts. This program addresses the growing need for professionals who can navigate the intersection of artificial intelligence and education, focusing on human-centered design principles, ethical considerations, and pedagogical practices.

    This certificate can be taken as a stand-alone certificate or as an option for Year 2 of the MEd in School Counselling Program.It explores wellness in schools through an Indigenous lens, emphasizing how comprehensive school health strategies can reflect Indigenous values and knowledge systems. The program also guides non-Indigenous educators in ethically engaging with Indigenous wisdom while fostering decolonization and reconciliation within school communities.

  5. Webinar: Mental Health & Wellbeing in Schools: Social Justice in Practice

    This certificate can be taken as a stand-alone certificate or as an option for Year 2 of the MEd in School Counselling Program. Through experiential learning, participants apply theory to real-world mental health challenges in schools, develop interventions from a social justice perspective, and explore strategies to address social disparities. The program emphasizes critical reflection, community engagement, and relational accountability to better support diverse students and educators.
