Meet the 2025 UCalgary 3MT Finals' Hosts and Judges!
Darsh Tripathi
Darsh Tripathi is a PhD student in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary, supervised by Dr. Walter Herzog. He also completed his Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biological Sciences at UCalgary, where he conducted his Honours research in Dr. Herzog’s lab. His interest in knee arthritis research was fueled by a multi-ligamentous knee injury, leading him to pursue a Master’s, now fast-tracked into a PhD. His research focuses on arthritis, obesity and the pathogenesis and treatment of osteoarthritis. Through his work, Darsh hopes to contribute to advancements in bone and joint health while gaining valuable research experience.
Patrick Whitman

Patrick Whitman is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary under the supervision of Dr. Leigh Gabel. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology Honours Conversion at Dalhousie University in 2022. His research focuses on exercise, strength training and muscle health, particularly in peri- and early post-menopausal females. Patrick's interest in this field was inspired by observing his mother's challenges during menopause. He aims to provide evidence that proactive strength training can effectively prevent muscle mass and function loss in menopausal women, contributing to improved overall health and quality of life.

Jane Griffith
Jane Griffith is the Managing Partner and Founder of Griffith Group Executive Search, specializing in the recruitment of senior leaders across academic, research, not-for-profit and broader public sectors. With a career spanning global search firms, she was Canada's first 'Partner and National Diversity Leader.' An alumni of the University of Calgary, Jane holds a Bachelor of Arts in Legal History and a Master of Arts from the University of Toronto.
Jane is a dedicated advocate for diversity and inclusion, supporting organizations such as the LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors Association, where she serves as Executive Director, and the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Chamber of Commerce. She also founded The Council of Women Executives and actively mentors young professionals through various initiatives, including the CGLCC OUT for Business program.

Belinda Heyne
Dr. Belinda Heyne is a Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Calgary. As a photochemist, she explores how visible light can energize oxygen to create singlet oxygen, a powerful molecule she applies in the fight against antimicrobial resistance. Born and raised in Belgium, Dr. Heyne earned her Ph.D. in Science from the University of Liège in 2004. In 2007, she joined the University of Calgary, where she has built a distinguished career in research and leadership.
Beyond her scientific contributions, she is a passionate advocate for women in science, organizing events like the Women's Global Breakfast and captivating audiences with chemistry magic shows. Her dedication to research, mentorship and advocacy has earned her numerous accolades, including the Immigrant of Distinction Award, recognizing her impact in both science and the community.
Jessica Théroux
Jessica Théroux is a multidisciplinary artist, educator and community builder based in Calgary, Alberta. A painter, writer, sculptor and fibre artist, she has spent over 15 years teaching junior high art while fostering creativity beyond the classroom. Alongside her husband and stepson, she embarks on artistic adventures through The Isle of Roux, co-founded and operated the Rumble House and Gorilla House, and has co-hosted over 500 live art events, bringing together artists and audiences.
She delivered a TEDx Talk in May 2023 and has contributed to a feature-length puppet film. Passionate about connecting people through art, she runs an artist collective and continues to explore new creative avenues as a singer, entertainer and storyteller. Her work serves as a thread that stitches together community, expression and imagination.
Rich Théroux
Rich Théroux is a multidisciplinary artist, educator and community leader dedicated to fostering creativity and connection. Based in Calgary, Alberta, he co-founded The Isle of Roux, an imaginative online creative space, and previously operated Rumble House Arts Society and Gorilla House Live Art, supporting artists for over a decade. With more than 20 years of experience as a teacher, he is a source of inspiration and guidance to his students and artistic peers alike.
Rich is also an accomplished author and speaker, having delivered a TEDx Calgary talk and published three books. His work extends beyond writing, contributing illustrations and cover art to numerous publications, as well as chapters in anthologies and collaborative projects. Known for his generosity and unwavering support, Rich remains deeply committed to empowering artists and fostering creativity in all its forms.
