This competition is managed through the Graduate Award Competition (GAC) with deadlines in early February.
Open to thesis-based students undertaking a full-time graduate program in research areas that are strategically important to Alberta.
Your research must be related to Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Nanotechnology, or Omics (Omics consists of: Genomics, Proteomics, Metabolomics, Transcriptomics and Regulomics) and which supports the innovation priority areas of Environment & Climate, Energy, Food & Agriculture, Fibre/Bioindustrial and Health.
Note: This program will not support medical or health-related research initiatives that qualify for support from the Alberta Innovates Graduate Studentships (Health), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), or similar medical research agencies. Candidates performing research that is clearly health-related must apply directly to Alberta Innovates Graduate Studentships (Health), CIHR or similar medical research agencies.
Preparing your application
Students with a UCalgary student number (UCID) may apply for awards after submitting an application for admission. You do not need to be accepted into your program before you apply for awards.

The Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarships AGES top-up is only available to students who have applied for, and been awarded, both an Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarships award and Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarships award.
The Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarships Major Award top-up is only available to students who have applied for, and been awarded, both a major award and Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarships award.
For the purposes of the Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarships competition, a major award is defined as having a value of $17,500 or higher.
This competition is managed through the Graduate Award Competition (GAC). The 2021 Graduate Award Competition will open in November 2020.

The deadline is February 1, 2021, unless your program has an earlier deadline. Confirm your program’s deadline as late applications will not be accepted.
