Skills internships (TTI)

What makes a skills internship different from a research or program-required internship?

Meet Yangyang Fang

Transformative Talent Internships (TTI) are skills internships. These internships give students like Yangyang Fang opportunities to apply and develop their transferable skills in professional settings not necessarily related to their research interests.

Yangyang, a PhD candidate in Community Health Sciences, completed an internship with TEDxCalgary as a Partnerships, Sponsorships and Community Relations Coordinator. As a community health student, Yangyang's internship did not connect to her research. However, it gave her the opportunity to build on a broad range of transferable skills gained through her academic experience.

By making her internship a TTI, Yangyang earned course credit toward her degree and received reimbursement for the cost of her program fees during her internship.

Students pursuing internships that are required by their program, or that contribute to their thesis research are not eligible to participate in a TTI.
