Areas of Research

Continuum Mechanics
Continuum Mechanics, the "mother" of Solid Mechanics and Fluid Mechanics, studies matter at an observation scale much larger than the atomic scale. At such a large scale, the existence of the atomic structure can be ignored and matter can be described as a continuum. I am interested in the geometrical foundations of Continuum Mechanics for the description of complex systems.
Soft Tissue Biomechanics
Mathematical modelling of the mechanical behaviour of soft biological tissue, by means of the tools of modern Continuum Mechanics. I am interested in retrieving the tissue's properties from considerations made at the micro-structural level, as well as in problems of growth, remodelling and damage of tissue.
