Ryo Suzuki is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at the University of Calgary. His research interest lies at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Robotics. He explores how we can combine AR/VR and robotics technologies to make our environments programmable and further blend digital and physical worlds. In the past 5 years, he has published more than fifteen peer-reviewed conference papers at top HCI and robotics venues, such as CHI, UIST, IROS, and received three awarded papers. Previously he also worked as research interns at Stanford University, UC Berkeley, the University of Tokyo, Adobe Research, and Microsoft Research.

Working with this supervisor

My research interest lies in the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Robotics. Our group usually aims to publish our works at the top conferences in HCI and Robotics, such as ACM CHI, UIST and/or IEEE ICRA, IROS. Our research lab, Programmable Reality Lab, seeks to blend digital and physical worlds by exploring novel interactions for augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), tangible interactions, and shape-changing and swarm interfaces.

My group also collaborates with industrial partners, which include Adobe Research, Microsoft Research, Snap Research, and Autodesk Research, in the area of novel interactions for AR/MR and haptic interfaces for VR.

I am always looking for strong PhDs, masters, postdocs, or interns, who are interested in joining or collaborating with us, across disciplines (e.g., Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Design, and Computer Science). If you are interested, please feel free to send me an email.
