Areas of Research

Machine Learning and Deep Learning
Machine learning and Deep learning methods applied to diverse fields of engeenring, such as remote snesing, digital forensics and biomedical image analysis.
Image Analysis
Analysis of images using both linear and non-linear approaches. I am particularly interested in morphological approaches based on graph representations of images, such as the max-tree and the tree of shapes.
Inverse Problems
Modelling how to efficiently reconstruct or denoise signals, such as spectroscopy, magnetic resonance imaging, and JPEG decompression.
Data Fusion
Apply advanced machine learning techniques to integrate data originated from diverse sources.

Working with this supervisor

I am an Assistant Professor in Artificial Intelligence at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Calgary. My research focus is on image analysis and machine learning approaches applied to diverse fields of engineering. I am also the manager of the Calgary-Campinas public dataset (https://sites.google.com/view/calgary-campinas-dataset/home) that provides ~500 GB of magnetic resonance imaging data.

I am not actively recruiting students at the moment. Nevertheless, all applications are welcome. Please send your CV and unofficial transcripts when contacting me about becoming a student in my group. Use your contact email to describe your motivation and why you want to work with me. There is no need to send a motivation letter.

I receive, on average, eight applications per day and I only respond to applications that pass an initial screening.
