Working with this supervisor

I am a Professor of Learning Sciences, and I also held the Research Chair in STEM Education at Werklund School of Education. I supervise students both in Learning Sciences and the Computational Media Design program.

My research sits at the intersection of modelling complex systems, multi-agent programming languages, art and social justice. (Prospective students: please see this page before sending me an inquiry)

As a technology designer, I build and lead the design of immersive, interactive and public computational systems for modelling complex phenomena. As an empirically and historically grounded theorist, I draw upon literatures on complex systems, computer science, critical theories, learning sciences, science education, and social justice. Across the different projects, my work develops critical phenomenological approaches for integrating computing in public education, in justice-oriented ways. Updated list of publications can be found on Google Scholar. You can find out more about my research my visiting my lab website (www.m3lab.org).

I am interested in working with students who have deep interest in design, epistemology and public education.  Experience in computing is a plus and not necessary. I work very closely with my students, and support them in publishing in good journals and developing a strong academic trajectory. Previous PhD students who have worked with me have gone on to hold postdoctoral and faculty positions at Harvard University, Penn State University, Lipscomb University, the University of Colorado et Boulder, etc.
