Health Services Research, Epidemiology
My program of research focuses on patients with multiple chronic conditions (multi-morbidity). Specifically, I am interested in understanding the subset of chronic disease patients that drive health care utilization and spending. Using population-based administrative data and novel data-linkage methodologies, my work explores the clinical profiles of complex chronic disease patients, how they engage with the health care system, and whether care pathways can be modified to improve care and outcomes for these patients. Current projects include the investigation of potentially preventable acute care spending among high cost inpatients and characterization of high system use across the primary-tertiary care continuum. I am also an investigator within the Interdisciplinary Chronic Disease Collaboration (ICDC) - an Alberta Innovates funded team grant focusing on improving the efficient and equitable care of patient with chronic medical conditions.
