Working with this supervisor

As a graduate supervisor, I aim to guide and mentor students throughout their graduate program by transforming their learning from consumers of knowledge to creators of knowledge. I view the student-supervisor relationship as a collaborative process, rooted in respect, open communication, reciprocity and one which I strive to balance my goals, expectations, and interests with that of students. I also support the professional development and research interests of students by providing them with necessary opportunities, training, and resources (e.g., upcoming workshops, conferences). I also assist students in applying for funding and building their social and professional network.

Students who work with me are expected to engage in critical discussions, show passion and enthusiasm for their research interests and demonstrate a commitment to scholarly and ethical activity. They should make their own critical inquiries, ask questions when they are unclear of expectations, and work independently. It is the student’s responsibility to discuss their preferences and expectations to ensure there is a mutual understanding of goals, timelines, and the overall process of working together.
