Social, intellectual, and religious history of the pre-modern Middle East
I am a historian of the premodern Middle East. I am interested in supervising PhD and MA theses on the social, religious, and intellectual history of the region in the middle ages, ones that are be based on Arabic and Persian primary sources. I am interested in topics dealing with rebellion and insurrection, heretical movements and religious orthodoxies, the lives of intellectuals and of "little people" (peasants, slaves, craftspeople, etc.). More broadly, I am interested in class struggle in the middle ages.
