Khara Sauro, PhD
Areas of Research
Health Services Research, Implementation Science, Quality Improvement, Clinical Effectiveness, Surgery, Oncology
Dr. Sauro's program of research aims to improve health and healthcare delivery, specifically for patients undergoing surgical care for cancer. To this end, the Sauro Lab currently has three main areas of research: 1) Improving the delivery of evidence-based surgical care, 2) improving how patients with cancer move between healthcare providers and settings, and 3) understanding the impact of delaying surgery during COVID-19 on patients, providers and the healthcare system. Underlying all pillars of research is the focus on designing and implementing solutions that result in meaningful changes to patient health and healthcare through end-user (patients, healthcare providers, decision-makers) engagement. Dr. Sauro's team uses a variety of research methods to ask and answer clinically meaningful questions, including administrative health data analysis, evidence synthesis (systematic and scoping reviews), qualitative methodology, surveys, and mixed methods. Dr. Sauro is a member of the Ohslon Research Initiative (Head & Neck Cancer research), O'Brien Institute for Public Health, Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute, and the C3 research network (Critical Care research).
