The Strategic Master's Award program provides financial support to scholars in specific CIHR priority research areas
You are encouraged to apply for awards when you have submitted your admissions application and received your University of Calgary student number (UCID). You are not required to meet the eligibility requirements in the terms of reference of an award when you apply, but if successful, you must meet the eligibility requirements at the time the award is paid.
Please ensure that you have completed the following two steps before submitting your application:

Students who are eligible to apply for the CIHR Strategic Master’s Award may be eligible for, and are strongly encouraged to apply to, the CIHR CGS-M.
Deadline to apply directly to ResearchNET: January 14, 2026
All signatures on the Routing Slip are required prior to submission. The Routing Slip must be signed by your supervisor prior to requesting the institutional signature from the Graduate Award Office. Please note, your supervisor is a participant and a sponsor.
Deadline to forward the signature form to the Graduate Award Office for Institutional signature: January 9th, 2026
You are required to include transcripts from all post-secondary institutions that you have attended, including the UCalgary, even if no grades were assigned or you did not complete the degree, as required by the CIHR Strategic Master’s Award Application
