Five things to do at the UCalgary Writing Symbols Lodge
Their welcoming doors also offer a supportive learning environment for the whole campus and the greater UCalgary community. Let’s dive in and explore five things you can do at WSL.
Access student facilities
Looking for a place to meet new friends, warm your food and grab a hot drink? Start your exploration by visiting WSL’s Red Lodge Student Lounge and get access to a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee-maker, kettle and more. The lounge is a great hub for connecting with other Indigenous students and establishing a supportive academic network you can lean on during busy and not-so-busy periods. The centre also gives you shared study space, a ceremonial room, and a computer lab.
Connect with a program advisor
Get the help you need by connecting with a WSL program advisor. They can assist you with general program advising, course registration, academic processes, calendar information, financial needs and orientation events. They can also help you navigate D2L, the Academic Requirements (AR) tool and the My UCalgary student portal (my.ucalgary.ca). Learn more about advising services!
Get academic support
Academic support plays an essential role in helping students determine their academic goals so they can achieve success during their post-secondary schooling. Academic support includes writing personal statements, setting goals, reading strategies, study habits, stress management, time management and more. Reach out to the WSL’s Gerald Ratt, Academic Development Specialist (Indigenous and Equity deserving students), for one-on-one assistance.
