It seems fitting that a company named after an ancient bird would get spirits soaring at the Schulich School of Engineering – and thanks to Arc’teryx, the University of Calgary's Cybermentor program has been given a major lift.

Arc’teryx, a global design company specializing in technical, high-performance apparel, outerwear and equipment, chose to support the faculty-founded Cybermentor as part of its “Do Right Day” project, where the firm donates 100% of one day’s online sales to an organization with shared values.

Schulich grad inspired the choice

The firm had been doing work with Schulich School of Engineering grad and mentor Natalie Panek, and from her learned about Cybermentor, a program that aims to inspire girls into pursuing a career in STEM through direct mentorship with female scientists and engineers.

On September 4, Arc’teryx chose to support Cybermentor, and Do Right Day raised over $80,000 for the program, ensuring girls from grades 6 to 12 continue to be inspired in years to come. You can read Arc’teryx’s blog on their company’s Cybermentor support here.

Dreams can continue

In the words of Schulich’s Senior Associate Dean of Diversity and Equity, Dr. Qiao Sun, PhD, who also serves as academic advisor for Cybermentor, “Commitments like this one from Arc’teryx will help ensure the dreams of many young women to explore science and engineering will continue to grow.”

Thank you, Arc’teryx! We are on top of the world, thanks to your incredible generosity.
