Centre for Career & Personal Development
In addition to regular workshops, resume review and other services, the Centre for Career & Personal Development provides international, Indigenous, PhD and masters program specialists to help graduate students plan and prepare for their career search. Contact them to make a one-on-one appointment!
Environmental Health and Safety
Depending on your program, you made need to participate in health and safety training. Areas of focus include biosafety, hazardous energy, laboratory safety, radioactive material safety and more.
Faculty of Graduate Studies Academic Specialists
The Faculty of Graduate Studies has a team of specialists available to advise students on policy matters and help with issue resolution. Contact the support team for issues including supervisor conflict, policies and responsibilities regarding supervision, failed first attempts at candidacy or thesis defense, leave of absence or extension requests and procedures, your rights as a student, or other issues impacting your studies or time to completion.
Graduate Students' Association
The GSA provides advocacy and other services for graduate students, including a health and dental plan, volunteer opportunities, social events and more.
Health Science Library
The Health Science Library organizes workshops for graduate students on the Foothills campus. Workshop topics include searching MEDLINE, systematic reviews and more.
Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation
A part of the Haskayne School of Business, the Hunter Centre offers courses in entrepreneurship and innovation available to all non-MBA UCalgary graduate students. Learn the basics of how to create, evaluate and pursue entrepreneurial opportunities.
Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking
The Hunter Hub provides a wide range of programming in support of the UCalgary entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem. Learn about drop-in sessions, legal advice, pitch competitions and more.
International Student Services
International graduate students can find support services and personalized advising to help you adjust to life as a UCalgary student.
Mitacs
This national not-for-profit organization delivers exceptional training available free to UCalgary grad students. Workshops focus on teamwork, time management, communication skills, project management and more.
Mitacs also coordinates research internships with support from the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
Research Services
Research Services administers grant funding and ethics certification for all research at the University of Calgary. This includes setting up access to graduate student research allowances and related post-award matters, such as executing funding agreements with sponsors. Applications for funding by graduate students normally flow through the Faculty of Graduate Studies, but in certain cases Research Services will arrange institutional capping approval.
Student Success Centre
Get academic support to help you thrive in your graduate program. The SSC staff includes academic development specialists who will meet with you one-on-one to help you plan for success. Graduate peer coaches are grad students who help other grad students - meet with a coach or pay it forward by volunteering!
SSC programming also includes writing supports specifically for graduate students.
Taylor Family Digital Library
The TFDL hosts a regular series of workshops on both the main campus and the Foothills campus via the Health Sciences Library.
Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning
Teaching skills have wide application for both academic and non-academic careers. The Taylor Institute gives our graduate students a strong foundation in teaching skills through workshops and courses.
Earn five digital badges in teaching and learning, culminating in a Graduate Student Certificate in University Teaching and Learning that you can earn at no extra cost alongside your graduate program.
Student Wellness Services
The Wellness Centre maintains a core team of healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, behavioural health consultants and a psychiatrist, complemented by specialists in chiropractics, massage and nutrition. Care is available through both appointments and walk-in visits. Contact the Wellness Centre for medical and mental health care, and for additional wellness services.
