Mengguo Jing

Areas of Research
I study early childhood development and learning in digital contexts. My research team conducts empirical research aimed at leveraging digital media and technology in promoting children’s wellbeing from a cognitive development perspective. My current work investigates the learning and transfer involved in children's interaction with digital media, with a focus on underlying cognitive processes, including visual attention, symbolic representation, and intuitive reasoning. In this work, I also design and test media features that support early learning in domains such as vocabulary, math and spatial reasoning, and science learning. In another line of inquiry, I study the role of social media in adolescent development, with a particular emphasis on underrepresented communities.
We employ multiple methods, such as child experiments, individual difference measures, eye-tracking approaches and meta-analyses, to understand and facilitate early learning from digital media and technology. I am particularly interested in exploring and exploiting new and emerging analytical methods to deepen our understanding of the data in addressing the research questions.
