Mitacs is a national, not-for-profit organization that has designed and delivered research and training programs in Canada for 15 years. 

Preparing your application

Students with a UCalgary student number (UCID) may apply for awards after submitting an application for admission. You do not need to be accepted into your program before you apply for awards.

Please ensure that you have completed the following two steps before submitting your application:

Mitacs-Accelerate

Through Mitacs-Accelerate, graduate students apply their specialized expertise to business-related research challenges. Armed with the very latest tools, techniques, and innovations, the intern brings a new perspective to the problem faced by the industry partner. There are no deadlines, applications are accepted at any time and Mitacs-Accelerate is not a competition.

Submit your complete application, along with the signed Research Funding Application Approvals form, to the Research Services Office.

Mitacs Globalink

Take your research abroad with Mitacs Globalink - travel funding for going between Canada and several international partners.

Mitacs Globalink accepts applications for competitive international research opportunities, including student travel to and from Canada. Projects last 12–24 weeks and are open to graduate students in all disciplines.

Funding varies by destination. Approved destinations are:

  • Brazil
  • Mainland China
  • France: At French universities or Inria Research Centres
  • India
  • Mexico
  • Tunisia

Graduate students can also apply to the Mitacs-JSPS Internship, which supports travel to Japan for a 10-week research project.
