Areas of Research

International Social Work and Social Development
My research advances social justice, decolonial knowledge, and community-led transformation, bridging international social development, critical social work, and participatory scholarship. I welcome PhD students passionate about challenging inequalities, amplifying marginalized voices, and creating meaningful social change. My key areas of research and supervision include: Men and Masculinities and Gender Justice: Transforming masculinities, engaging men in gender equality, and preventing gender-based violence through culturally grounded and faith-based approaches. Girls' Education and Community Transformation: Challenging gender barriers to education, engaging men and communities and advancing locally led educational and social change. Muslim Youth Identity, Belonging, and Well-Being: Exploring Islamophobia, anti-Muslim racism, racialized identities, spirituality, mental health, resilience, and belonging among Muslim youth in Canada. Decolonial International Social Work: Reimagining social work education, research, and practice through Global South perspectives, epistemic justice, and culturally responsive approaches. Participatory Research and Community Knowledge: Advancing qualitative, narrative, photovoice, and community-based research that values lived experiences, reciprocal partnerships, and locally sustained scholarship. Youth Leadership and Community-Engaged Scholarship: Strengthening youth voices, collaborative knowledge creation, community leadership, and research-informed social transformation. My supervisory philosophy centres on mentorship as a reciprocal journey of intellectual growth, critical inquiry, and shared learning. I particularly welcome doctoral and MSW applicants committed to research that not only generates knowledge but also strengthens communities, challenges structural inequalities, and inspires transformative social change.

Working with this supervisor

My approach to doctoral supervision is relational, ethical, holistic, and transformative, grounded in trust, compassion, intellectual rigour, and reciprocal learning. I view supervision as a shared journey of discovery, where students are valued as emerging scholars, knowledge creators, and future leaders.

I strive to create an inclusive and intellectually stimulating environment that honours students' diverse identities, lived experiences, ways of knowing, and aspirations. My mentorship combines critical inquiry, methodological excellence, individualized guidance, and constructive feedback with genuine care for students' personal and professional growth.

Students are encouraged to develop their independent scholarly voices while engaging in collaborative research, international partnerships, community-based inquiry, publications, and public scholarship. I particularly value curiosity, humility, ethical responsibility, and a commitment to social justice.

My aspiration is not simply to supervise dissertations, but to walk alongside students as they become confident, independent, and compassionate scholars whose research contributes to knowledge, strengthens communities, and inspires meaningful social change.
