Areas of Research

Assisted Gait Biomechanics / La biomécanique de la marche avec les aides à la marche
We are studying how walking aids affect upper extremity kinematics and muscle activation patterns in order to reduce the risk of upper body injury with repetitive walking aid use. We have also looked at energy expenditure and kinetics of walking aid use, and the role of computer simulation and computerized gait analysis in predicting injury risk.
Joint Hypermobility / Conditions d'hypermobilité
Dr. Manocha specializes in working with patients with inherited conditions causing ligamentous laxity, such as generalized joint hypermobility, the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes, Marfan syndrome, Stickler syndrome, Larsen syndrome, et cetera. We are currently engaged in prospective clinical and biomechanics research with these patients.

Working with this supervisor

Our lab is interdisciplinary and we have supervised students from Biomedical Engineering, Kinesiology, Medicine, Occupational Therapy, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Physical Therapy.  We have an interest in the biomechanics of assisted gait, the sociology of disability, rehabilitation medicine, and/or sport medicine.

WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING TRAINEES.
