Areas of Research
Bacterial genetics and physiology
My lab works on the genetics, physiology and ecology of agricultural bacteria. Our primary interest is in the root nodulating bacterium Rhizobium leguminosarum and its genetics and genomics. Individual projects involve plasmid transfer by conjugation, catabolism of compounds produced by plants, chemotaxis and motility, and the genomics of phages that infect rhizobia.

Working with this supervisor
Looking for strong undergraduates with honours degrees that would be eligible for scholarships, and willing to start a MSc or a PhD directly. Students should have a Microbiology degree, or a a very strong background in Genetics or Biochemistry, with some exposure to Microbiology. For the near future, I can only consider students who have a very high probability of getting scholarship support for their studies. Please contact me directly by email (you can access that from my departmental website) if you are interested in graduate studies in my lab. I will only respond to students who have a genuine interest in my work and suitable background in Molecular Microbiology and work with bacteria.
