Free music/improvised music including jazz
I have recently worked extensively with Joe Morris (2017 Killam Scholar) and completed a recording of free music. Saxophone and flute. I am also a practicing jazz improvisor.
Conducting, wind literature, chamber music
I am music director of the Calgary Wind Symphony (1997-present) and 2017 conductor of the Canadian National Youth Band. Form 1992-1996 I was director of the wind conducting program of Calgary.

I am director of the UCalgary Jazz Orchestra and lead tenor of the Calgary Jazz Orchestra.
Music history (American music) Henry Cowell
My book, the Wind Band Music of Henry Cowell (Routledge Press, 2017) is a comprehensive overview of wind band literature of the wind music of Cowell.
Saxophone (flute) recitalist
I have commissioned more than 50 works for saxophone and have been soloist with several Canadian and American orchestras.
Woodwind doubler
I am a practicing woodwind doubler and have presented papers on doubling, most recently at the 2016 Jazz Educators Conference, Louisville Kentucky.
