Areas of Research
Dr. Allison Brown is an applied, mixed methods scientist whose program of research is oriented around social accountability in medical education. Her previous and ongoing research activities include examining a diverse range of areas in medicine and medical education, such as: quality improvement and patient safety; research and innovation methods; social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion; critical pedagogy, critical consciousness, and structural competence; professionalism and mistreatment; assessment and psychometrics.

Dr. Brown is looking for highly motivated and self-directed learners, particularly those passionate about critical pedagogy, social justice, and social accountability in medicine and medical education. Students would ideally specialize in the Medical Education stream. She can co-supervise MSc and PhD students.
Dr. Brown is also motivated to supervise and mentor students who are under-represented in medicine and health sciences, including (but not limited to): racial minorities (e.g., Black, Indigenous, and Filipino students), gender minorities (e.g., gender diverse students), sexual minorities (LGBTQ2SIA+), and students with diverse abilities. Students that would be considered part of an under-represented or minoritized groups in medicine and medical education whose academic and research interests align are highly encouraged to contact this supervisor.
