Areas of Research

Stem Cell Biology
My research program revolves around the derivation, expansion, differentiation and genetic manipulation of mouse and human pluripotent stem cells, including embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells. Over the past several years, we been developing bioprocesses for generating bone, cartilage and heart tissue from stem cells for transplantation and drug screening. Important features of our research are the development of methods for deriving, expanding and differentiating stem cells in stirred suspension bioreactors and the genetic modification of stem cells using CRISPR-Cas mediated genome engineering.
