Areas of Research

Autonomous Mapping
My current research program is involved with the development of vision-guided, intelligent unmanned systems and their applications in geomatics. Our current research activities include: Developments of new UAV-borne ranging and imaging technologies (integration and calibration of new sensor); Autonomous and high-precision mapping via vision-guided unmanned aerial systems (development of novel techniques of 3D reconstruction, aerial data analytics, vision-based navigation, task-oriented motion planning); and Thematic applications (infrastructure inspection, precision agriculture, mine monitoring).

Working with this supervisor

I mostly look for excellent national or international MSc and PhD students from accredited universities. Applicant’s BSc GPA must be over 3.5 (in Canadian norms). Students with degrees in geomatics engineering (if applying for PhD, in photogrammetry), electrical and computer engineering, and computer science are welcome to apply. Strong interest in computer vision, photogrammetry, and/or autonomous multi-sensor mapping systems is a must. Excellent programming skills in C/C++ and/or Python are required. The applicant is expected to develop excellent communication competencies in the course of their project to publish journal articles and present their work at international conferences. If you are interested in joining Autonomous Mapping Lab, you need to first send your updated curriculum vitae, unofficial transcripts as well as a statement of interest to Dr. Mozhdeh Shahbazi.
