Areas of Research

My research activities to date have been focused in the area of applied electromagnetics. These activities have taken two main directions. First, I have pursued investigation in the area of computational electromagnetics, and specifically in the augmentation of computational methods for more accurate and computationally efficient simulation of electromagnetic problems. Secondly, I have applied these computational tools for problems in the field of optical modeling, undersea oil reservoir detection, etc. I am also interested in the use of computational methods for acoustic and seismic modeling. The computational method I investigate most is the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method, which is a method which discretizes boundary value problems using partial difference approximations. This method has wide use in the electromagnetics research and commerical community for e.g. antenna design, dosimetry studies, etc.
