This program prepares students to be eligible for licensing as nurse practitioners by the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta, and can be pursued as a stand-alone program at the post-master’s level, or in conjunction with the Master of Nursing course-based degree. Nurse practitioners engage in the full scope of nursing practice, including medical diagnosis, ordering of diagnostic tests, and prescription of drugs. The program is designed for full-time studies over a year-and-a-half period and focuses on adult health, primarily in acute care settings.
Practicum Courses: Four eight-week blocks of practicum to develop advanced skills in clinical diagnosis, patient management and more.
Nurse practitioner, direct clinical practice, adult acute-care, health care, advance practice nursing, gerontology, ICU, nursing education, medical diagnosis, prescribing medications.
A course-based diploma in nursing is usually considered a final degree.
One year full-time
A supervisor is required, but is not required prior to the start of the program

A minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 point system, over the past two years of full-time study (a minimum of 10 full-course equivalents or 60 units) of the undergraduate degree.
A master’s degree, normally in nursing; successful completion of one graduate level half-course equivalent to University of Calgary Nursing 661; one equivalent to Nursing 663; and one equivalent to Nursing 665.
The practicum providers and public health authorities have determined that in order to participate in practicum it is mandatory for students to be immunized against/tested for a variety of communicable diseases. They also must be fit tested for a N95 mask. Further information is available on the Faculty of Nursing website.
