Graduate Studies
Note on terminology: The term "thesis" in this section of the website is used collectively to refer to both Master's theses and Doctoral dissertations.
This section is designed to help you with thesis preparation.
IMPORTANT NOTICE (April, 2012)
The Thesis Guidelines have been revised!
The previous Thesis Guidelines are still applicable until September 28, 2012 (last day to submit thesis for November Covocation). You may choose to follow either the updated Thesis Guidelines or the previous Thesis Guidelines; however, we strongly encourage you to use and follow the updated one.
Updated Thesis Guidelines
(as of April, 2012)
Previous Thesis Guidelines (effective until September 28, 2012)
Thesis Preparation
Remember to read the Thesis Guidelines carefully before you begin writing and formatting your thesis. In order for the Faculty of Graduate Studies to approve your thesis and clear you for Convocation, your final thesis must comply with the requirements specified in the Thesis Guidelines.
We strongly recommend that you look at this sample thesis to get an overview of what a standard University of Calgary thesis should look like. (Note: The sample thesis follows the updated Thesis Guidelines)
Thesis Submission
If you have finished formatting your thesis and are ready to submit your final defended thesis to the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS), ensure that you submit all required forms with your thesis submission.
